I attended the first all male quilt retreat last summer and had such a great time! I decide I had to attend this years as well so I headed to arnprior to a place call Inspired Getaways for another amazing experience with so great people.
I had the opportunity to hook up with old friends and meet some new ones. This retreat brought men from all over, there was men from all over Canada and they were such a great crowd to sew with and be inspired by. I Started to work on a project that I prepped at the store. This pattern required the use of two sets of rulers called the drunkards path 3 1/2 inch and a 6 inch, when using the rulers they make a 6 inch circle with the large ruler and a 3 1/2 circle with the smaller ruler. I chose some of the batik fabric we have here at GEM and loved the way it sewed!
We all spent a lot of time sewing so we took a break and went on a shop hop on Friday morning, the first place we stopped at was called Mad About Patch Work which was very cute shop with very friendly staff there to greet us and help us look for new and interesting items. After we were done at Mad About Patch Work we headed to the mall in arnprior to another shop called Sew Inspired, another great shop with people to match. After shopping we headed back the retreat and it was back to work (sewing)!
I finished the pattern that I had been working on, mainly because I had ran out of the material that I had been using (had to get more from the shop to finish the top ). Since I ran out of fabric I had to do something else so I tried a paper piecing pattern that I had but there wasn’t enough room for me to work on it so that one was put away for now, but I hope to get back to it soon. I then worked on a double disappearing 9 patch which was so much fun to do, if you take a look at the picture the bright colours stand out and if you look close you can see that I used a linen in the sashing which I think looks great!
I love running the store here in New Liskeard but man was it nice to get away and work on some personal projects and gain some much needed inspiration!
I would like to thank Inspired getaways for a great time, the meals and the deserts the were out of this world, and a huge thank you to Paul Leger for the organizing this event!
I can’t wait to do it again next year, and invite any and Male Sewers to join us!
